og Marit Jonsson to islandske heste fra Island til Danmark.\u00a0 I de f\u00f8lgende \u00e5r kom enkelte heste til landet, og i 1967 var den samlede bestand 19 rideheste og otte unghopper.\u00a0<\/span>I begyndelsen blev de betragtet med nogen overb\u00e6renhed, men i 1967 prinsesse Margretje gift, og Island for\u00e6rede brudeparret to islandske hopper i bryllupsgave.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00c5ret efter blev Dansk Islandshesteforening stiftet, og siden er det kun g\u00e5et fremad. Hestens gode egenskaber har gjort den stadig mere popul\u00e6r overalt i landet. Den\u00a0islandske hest\u00a0er efterkommer af de ponyer og heste, vikingerne havde med sig, da de bosatte sig p\u00e5 Island i niende og tiende \u00e5rhundrede. De medbragte heste var forskellige i udseende og farver, hvilket forklarer den store farvevariation i den islandske race. Det barske klima p\u00e5 Island formede igennem tiderne hesten til en kompakt, n\u00f8jsom og h\u00e5rdf\u00f8r race<\/span><\/p>\n
De islandske heste er kendte for deres s\u00e6rlige gangarter. Andre heste behersker skridt, trav og galop. De islandske heste kan derudover t\u00f6lt og pas. De fleste heste kan t\u00f6lt, og disse heste kaldes 4-g\u00e6ngere, da de behersker fire gangarter. Heste, som behersker b\u00e5de t\u00f6lt og pas, kaldes for 5-g\u00e6ngere. En islandsk hest, som kan g\u00e5 pas, kan ogs\u00e5 g\u00e5 t\u00f6lt. Derimod kan en islandsk hest, der kan g\u00e5 t\u00f6lt, ikke n\u00f8dvendigvis g\u00e5 pas.<\/span><\/p>\n
Isl\u00e6nderen er f\u00f8rst og fremmest en brugshest. Ved avlsarbejdet l\u00e6gges is\u00e6r v\u00e6gt p\u00e5 gode rideegenskaber. Hesten skal have adskilte gangarter og et st\u00e6rkt temperament. Der gives en s\u00e6rlig karakter\u00a0for vilje\u00a0og sind, og den har stor v\u00e6gt i den samlede ridebed\u00f8mmelse.<\/span><\/p>\n
